Skippack firefighters were dispatched to a barn fire in Worcester around 3 pm on Wednesday. The barn housed a woodshop with large amounts of stored wood. The first Skippack firefighters on scene made entry and started extinguishing the fire until conditions became too dangerous and the building was evacuated. The incident then became an exterior operation and Squad 86 supplied water to the scene where trucks employed master streams from the ground and aerial apparatus until the fire was extinguished. Once the fire was under control firefighters assisted in clean up where they rolled many sections of 5 inch hose, including all 1600 feet of the 5 inch hose from Squad 86. During clean up Skippack Fire Company was dispatched to two additional incidents, which were covered by their mutual aid companies, Perkiomen Township Fire Company and Harleysville Community Fire Company. Their support is greatly appreciated. We also want to thank North Penn Goodwill Services, who came to the fire and supplied much needed food and a relief truck. Skippack crews finished clean up at their station around 8:15 pm.
Skippack firefighters also responded to a building fire in Collegeville as the rapid intervention team just after 10:00 pm on Wednesday. They returned to Skippack around 11:30 pm.
Thursday brought a chimney fire in Worcester, electrical fire in Towamencin and then another building fire in West Norriton, making for another busy day for Skippack. On Thursday night firefighters will do their annual first aid and CPR training. |
