On Saturday morning Skippack firefighters practiced their ice rescue skills at a training drill led by Upper Providence Fire Company at Lock 60. On the canal members practiced using Skippack's inflatable "banana" boat, a rescue sled, and with ropes. Members who were not on the ice manned safety lines and haul lines. The training then moved to the Schuylkill River where everyone could practice sounding and crossing the ice with staffs and ice awls, as well as rescues where the edge of the ice broke under the weight of the victim and rescuer.
Thank you Station 68 for the invitation and a fun-filled training!
