While many of us were out getting those last minute gifts or getting ready for family and friends, several Skippack FFs spent Saturday training at an acquired building in Worcester. Prior to being demolished for new development, Worcester Fire Dept. was granted use of a commercial building to use for training. While getting buildings to train in is a rare event, it’s an excellent opportunity to training in an actual building and practice tasks that you can’t do in a training or occupied building as you can see from some of the pictures. Movie smoke was added to simulate low to no visibility in an actual fire. It’s an excellent opportunity to train with neighboring departments, share techniques and work together. Topics practiced included hose line stretches, vent/enter/search (technique to enter an upper floor room where there this is a high probability of a trapped victim), roof ventilation, and rescuing a trapped fire fighter. Thank you to Worcester Fire Dept. for inviting us and neighboring departments to practice our life saving skills.
