Skippack firefighters were dispatched to a mulch fire outside Univest Bank in Skippack just before 4 pm on Wednesday. This was quickly upgraded to a structure fire with heavy fire reported. When crews arrived the area and building were full of thick smoke and heavy fire from the front of the building. Firefighters from Skippack and multiple mutual aid fire companies made an aggressive interior attack but had to switch to an exterior attack due to the threat of the roof collapsing. Multiple master streams from Ladder 86 and Ladder 89 as well as multiple hand lines were used to access the fire in the roof area in the center of the building. Crews were on scene for an extended period of time performing overhaul to make sure the fire did not reignite. The exact cause of the fire is under investigating by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal. Skippack would like to thank our mutual aid partners - Harleysville Community Fire Company, Perkiomen Township Fire Company, Lower Frederick Fire Company, Upper Salford Volunteer Fire Company, Worcester Volunteer Fire Department, Trappe Fire Company, Towamencin Volunteer Fire Company, Hatfield Fire Company and EMS support from Plymouth Community Ambulance Association, Skippack Emergency Medical Services, Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale. As crews were finishing up overhaul, Tanker 86 was dispatched to support Worcester at a garage fire. Here the tanker supplied water and the crew worked on fire suppression and overhaul. As Tanker 86 was wrapping up at that fire scene they were sent to Heebner Park in Worcester to assist with the rescue of someone accidentally locked inside a park restroom. All Skippack units were made available just after 8 pm and returned to the station to clean and return all equipment to service.
