By Assistant Chief Keith Grierson
April 8, 2021

Skippack Fire Company responded this afternoon to a mutual aid technical rescue with Station 66, Perkiomen Township Fire Company, and other mutual aid companies at 12:31. Crews responded to the Perkiomen Creek near Maple Avenue in Perkiomen, for a male on the creekbed down a steep embankment. The subject had entered the water in his vehicle downstream and traveled up the creek until his truck became stuck in the middle of the water.

Skippack crews were assigned to secure the vehicle that was still in drive in the creek. Two firefighters in water rescue gear entered the water and secured the vehicle, returning it to shore. Firefighters then assisted the tow company with removing the vehicle up a slight embankment and a lightly wooded section along the creek and trail.

Perkiomen Township firefighters worked with other mutual aid companies, safely bringing the driver up the embankment on the opposite side of the Skippack operation. The rescue was complete at 12:55.

Skippack Fire Company units on scene included; Chief, Special Service (with the Assistant Chief), Squad (with the Batallion Chief), Ladder (with the Captain), and Utility (with the Lieutenant) 86. All Skippack Fire Company units returned available at 13:34.
