| On Thursday , Skippack Fire Company 86 joined crews from Lower Frederick and Upper Salford to run through scenarios encountered on the fireground in unhydranted areas of our municipalities. We often work together on the fireground, so the combined training was a welcome opportunity.
Engineer Jordan Perla created some real-world scenarios that are faced. One such scenario is using the tanker to nurse (supply) the first engine on a fire scene. This allows the tanker to provide water for fire attack while waiting for a more sustained supply, which may come from drafting a static source such as a porta-tank, creek, or pond. The often-used porta-tank would then be kept filled by a tanker shuttle to and from a logistically appropriate fire hydrant nearest the fire scene. When empty, the tanker would join the shuttle.
In the end, the three companies — on Constitution Day — strove for a more perfect union on the fireground, sharing the duty to provide for the common defense of the communities we protect. Come Join Us! |
