Vehicle Rescue Training

June 18, 2026

On Thursday evening, Skippack firefighters conducted a vehicle rescue training exercise. In this scenario, a car was positioned between two barriers, limiting access so the driver could only be rescued from the front or rear of the vehicle. Firefighters stationed along the sides of the car observed the operation but did not participate in the rescue at that time.

The rescue team entered the car through the rear hatch, worked to stabilize the driver, and placed a board between the driver and the back of the seat. This allowed them to safely cut and remove the seat back, enabling the safe removal of the driver. After completing this portion of the training, firefighters practiced additional rescue techniques, including moving the steering wheel upward to facilitate a driver rescue, creating a roof flap, and removing the car doors.

The department thanks Auto Rescue for donating the vehicle used in this training exercise.
