| Tis the season for celebrations. Many people enjoy the flickering lights of candles and their pleasant scents. We at Skippack Fire Company want to give you some safety pointers to keep you and your family safe this holiday season. These photos are from a small bathroom fire started by a candle.
Don't leave candles unattended. Bathrooms are not continuously attended and candles should not be left burning in them. Put candles out when you might fall asleep.
Make sure candles are isolated from flammable materials. This includes the area underneath and adjacent to the candle.
Keep candles away from areas that pets or children can reach.
Make sure your smoke detectors are working.
If you do have a fire, even if you think it is out, please call 911. It is much better for firefighters to drop in for a quick confirmation that the fire is out than arrive later for a more significant fire. |
