International Firefighters' Day

This week we ramp up to International Firefighters Day. May 4th is not only "Star Wars Day" but also the day we remember Firefighters, world wide.

Begun in 1999 in Australia after the deaths of 5 firefighters in one fire, we take this day to celebrate firefighters—whether career, volunteer, urban, rural, or wildland—for their commitment to public safety, regardless of country or uniform. And in remembrance of those who gave their 'last full measure of devotion' in service to their passion.

Ways to Celebrate Firefighters (Day): There are several ways to celebrate National Firefighters' Day. The NFFF asks that you join in the celebration by lighting your home in red this week leading up to May 4th.

*Change your porch lights to red bulbs and share photos on social media with #Shine4Firefighters
*Draw, color, craft and share your thank you using #WeThankFFs
*On May 4, post a picture of a firefighter who is important to you with the hashtag #ThisIsMyFirefighter.

The US Fire Administration lists that thus far in 2025. (28) firefighters have lost their life in the line of duty (LODD).
