Busy Start to February

February 5, 2023

Skippack firefighters are already having a busy month with 5 dispatches to building fires, 2 to electrical/field/woods fires related to the wind on Friday, one gas odor, one vehicle rescue and one EMS assist call. Fortunately most of the building fires were relatively minor, but one fire in Lower Salford Township did involve significant damage to the rear of the house. At that incident Skippack firefighters extinguished the attic fire, looked for hot spots and performed overhaul. A woods/field fire late on Friday night on Squirrel Hill Rd. involved several small fires sparked by power lines and risked rapid spread due to the brisk winds. Firefighters also had some treacherous walks up and down the icy road from the very cold temperatures. Once the downed power lines were de-energized, the area was thoroughly doused with water and crews returned to the station early Saturday morning after approximately 2 hours on scene. Our previous article post mentions the RIT call to which we were dispatched on Sunday, and the vehicle accident that occurred in front of the fire station just minutes later. Following these, we were dispatched for an EMS lift assist in Palmer Park.
