Sunday morning Tanker 86 participated in a tanker drill with Perkiomen Fire Company, assisted by Trappe and Upper Salford fire companies. In areas where there are no fire hydrants we must bring water to the scene by tankers. This involves setting up a ‘dump’ site near the scene and a ‘fill’ site at a creek or hydrant some distance away from the fire. These evolutions can allow us to flow over 1000 gallons per minute, when the closest water source may be several miles away. Tanker operations require good coordination and additional manpower with equipment spread out over a large distance. Sunday’s short drill helped training new drivers and operators on these operations.
