By Assistant Chief Keith Grierson
September 11, 2021

As we reflect on the 20th anniversary of September 11, 2001, the heroic actions of first responders and the sacrifices made by so many on that tragic day should forever remind us of the will of our nation to overcome adversity.

Of the 2,977 victims killed in the September 11 attacks, 412 were emergency workers in New York City who responded to the World Trade Center. This included:

343 firefighters (including a chaplain and two paramedics) of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY)

37 police officers of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department (PAPD)

23 police officers of the New York City Police Department (NYPD)

8 emergency medical technicians and paramedics from private emergency medical services

3 New York State Court Officers

1 patrolman from the New York Fire Patrol

In the years that have followed, fire, police, and EMS personnel have continued to put their lives on the line to shoulder the all-hazards mission of the fire and emergency services and keep their communities safe. The Skippack Fire Company thanks you for your continued support and remembers all those lost, injured, and touched by the events of twenty years ago.

Stay safe and God Bless America
