The Skippack Fire Company visited Sebastian Riding Associates last evening as part of our weekly training night commitments. Sebastian Riding Associates is a nonprofit located in town focused on assisting children with physical and mental disabilities to overcome challenges through equine assisted learning and therapy programs.

The fire company and Skippack Emergency Medical Services saw over twenty-five members come to the Water Street Road site to learn about equine emergencies and handling and to discuss pre-plan procedures for the over 20 acre property. These efforts included such things as life safety (of volunteers, participants/students, as well as visitors), property/building considerations and layout, hazards onsite (such as propane for barn heaters) and of course the horses.

Firefighters, EMT’s and Paramedics had the opportunity to get up close to several horses at the non-profit in an effort to learn about handling and other needs of the animals in the event of an emergency.

Thank you to all the volunteers at Sebastian Riding Associates for welcoming us to your home. You can learn more about this nonprofit and their efforts within our community at: http://sebastianriding.org/.

The Skippack Fire Company is a 100% volunteer organization, always looking for new members. Check out our “JOIN SFC” link on our website for more information on how to join our organization.
