Storms Hit Skippack
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Assistant Chief Keith Grierson
April 9, 2020

Skippack Fire Company responded on several calls for service early Thursday afternoon as a line of strong storms hit the area.

Crews handled multiple calls for wires down and poles burning on Skippack Pike and Hudnut Road. Firefighters also handled a dangerous condition of a chimney that was torn from a roof on Ottawa Court in Skippack.

With high winds in the forecast tonight and tomorrow it is important to remember some basic safety points especially with so many people at home social distancing. Downed power lines are dangerous. Never touch them. For safety’s sake, always assume that a fallen power line is live, and follow these guidelines:

Avoid touching the downed line with your hand or any object, such as a stick, broom or pole.

Avoid touching anything, such as a car, object or equipment, or anyone who is in contact with a fallen power line.

Keep children and pets away from fallen electric lines.

Avoid driving over a fallen power lines.

Call 9-1-1 immediately to report a fallen power line.
