Spring Ahead

As we “spring” ahead this weekend be sure to replace your batteries in your smoke and co detectors if they still use replaceable batteries.

If you have a 10-year sealed battery-operated unit, it is still a good idea to test these units monthly, just like the replaceable battery ones.

It’s also a great time to check the date of your units. Don’t wait...check the date. All smoke detectors should be replaced at least every ten years and CO detectors at least every five to seven years. Typically, the units have a tag or date stamp on the back to indicate it's age or expiration date.

Please note: even hardwired detectors with battery backups expire and should be replaced. Again...check their date.

Here is a tip: write the units expiration date on the front or side of it after removing from the ceiling to prevent the need to do this every year. Use a black Sharpie.
