| Daylight saving time starts at 2 am Sunday morning. This is a great time to check your smoke and CO detectors. Approximately 25% of Skippack Fire Company calls in recent years have been related to fire and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms. Most of these incidents are caused by expired batteries or outdated detectors. To help prevent these types of emergencies, residents are advised to test alarms monthly, replace batteries regularly, and check the date of manufacture. Carbon monoxide alarms generally last seven years, while smoke alarms are effective for up to ten years. On multiple occasions, detectors have successfully alerted families to dangerous situations. In these instances, the early warning allowed residents to call 911, enabling us to respond quickly and help make their homes safe. |
