Skippack Fire Company was dispatched late Friday evening at 23:03 for a vehicle that struck a gas line outside of a residence in the 1000 block of Grange Avenue. Deputy and Chief 86 arrived on scene to find a pickup truck that drove into a yard and struck the dome of an underground propane tank. The truck severely damaged the value and regulator area of the tank. With an active propane leak, the truck came to rest on top of the dome as it became stuck in the mud just feet from a house. Skippack Engine and Rescue crews worked to raise and crib under the front end of the truck in an attempt to protect the propane tank housing from further damage as the truck was pulled clear of the dome. Command hoped that once the truck was clear of the dome, the leak could be controlled by shutting down the service value. Upon successfully removing the truck, the service value was determined to be inoperable. After checking the residence with the multi gas meter it was determined that the house was free from any gasses. Crews turned the scene over to the propane company. |
