Skippack Thanksgiving Day Fire Victims Offer Thanks

January 4, 2019

Thanksgiving dinner was interrupted for many Skippack Fire Company members as their pagers sounded for a structure fire within the township that Thursday evening. By the time the fire was out, equipment cleaned and prepared for the next alarm, most firefighters returned to just leftovers in their refrigerators. The residents of that fire who themselves were just sitting down for their dinner, wanted to be sure Skippack Fire members had a hot meal and more importantly heard their and the communities “thank you” for service. The homeowners, Bruce and Sally Jo LaMont dealing with their own personal tragedy rallied friends, neighbors and several local business to help put on a huge spread of food for Skippack Fire members during a recent training night. The LaMont’s even found humor in their situation and message of thanks, creating a sign of thanks reading; "Best Fire Company to have at your Thanksgiving table".

Bruce shared that the local businesses offering up food and drink donations included, Collegeville Italian Bakery, Giant Food Markets, Jim & Ralph's Produce and Wegmans Food Markets. Bruce and Sally Jo shared their thanks for not only Skippack Fire Companies support, but also all the mutual aid fire companies, ambulance companies and Pennsylvania State Police. They spoke of these emergency services as the “fabric of our community”. To that end, everyone came together for the LaMont family and everyone came together to say thank you. The Skippack Fire Company is thankful for this support and the support received throughout the year from our community, mutual aid partners and fellow emergency responders.

The food and drinks were wonderful and we had leftovers at the station for days to enjoy over again! The LaMont family is doing well and working to restore their home to pre-fire conditions. We wish them all the best!
