Last Chance Auto Burns

Skippack Fire Company was dispatched to a commercial building fire Saturday afternoon at Last Chance Auto located at 1194 Collegeville Road, in Skippack. The box came in at 16:08 with the report that the caller to the Montgomery County Communications Center saw flames in the garage. Skippack Fire crews were already on the road clearing a motor vehicle crash when dispatched to the fire. Chief 86 arrived on scene at 16:11 and reported the auto body garage was fully involved. PECO was requested to the scene to control utilities and the State Police Fire Marshal was notified.

The bulk of the fire was reported knocked down at 16:34 and the fire was declared under control at 16:55. Extensive work was done to extinguish all hot spots and ensure hazard controls from the auto body shop.

Skippack Fire Company responding units in addition to the Chief included, the Deputy, Assistant and Battalion Chief's, Engine, Special Service, Utility and Fire Police 86. Assisting on scene were: 336 Skippack Emergency Medical Services, 322 Lower Providence Ambulance, Station 53 Lower Providence Fire Company, Station 66 Perkiomen Township Fire Company, Station 83 Worcester Fire Company and Standing-by in our station was Station 89 Harleysville Fire Company.

Two occupants inside the business were able to evacuate the structure prior to the fire companies arrival. No reported injuries were noted as a result of the blaze and the cause of the fire is under investigation. All crews returned to their stations available by 19:26.

In all Skippack Fire Crews responded to five calls for service on Saturday as well as a standby for Station 62, including the building fire. Other calls included two motor vehicle crashes, a gas odor and an automatic fire alarm.
